Where do I start?!?!

I spent a few days in London at the start of the festival, unfortunately I could not stay for the full 9 days. Apart from attending the launch party for my fill of champers and rubbing shoulders with the great and the good, I spent a lot of time going to the smaller pop up shops and events in and around the city.  In fact I did not stop and still only managed to take in a fraction of what was on offer.

I will be posting up snippets from the festival in future but want to tell you about the exciting events at the V&A, as this was where I was showing the footprint table. There were 4 designer makers selected to show work in the Sackler Centre and we were all there on the Monday for an event aptly named – Meet the Designer Makers, visitors to the museum could come and talk to us about our designs and processes.  It was great opportunity to engage with people and promote designer maker furniture and the designermakers.org.uk an online forum which I am part of.

Our work was well placed amongst the Cappellini exhibition which was also taking part in the Sackler Centre. There were some amazing installations both inside and outside the museum including Framed, a collaboration by Stuart Haygarth and John Jones a picture framing company. Over 30 types of traditional and contemporary frame were positioned onto a staircase leading to the architecture galleries and cascaded down to create a dramatic landscape which visitors could walk. Oskar Zieta transformed the centre of the Madjeski garden with an installation titled Blow and Roll, inflated pieces of sheet steel, demonstrating the flexibility of FiDU technology.

The footprint table has been handpicked by designer Suzanne Trocmé to be exhibited at the V&A during the London Design Festival 18th-26th September. It will be on show at the Sackler Centre. There will be an opportunity to meet and talk to the designer makers taking part.

“The Sackler Centre, with Spaces curated by Suzanne Trocmé, will once again host an extensive programme of seminars, talks and special events, as well as a business and VIP space. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the talented designer makers and ask about their process, design and craftsmanship.  The Designer Makers form part of the British Furniture Confederation. The British Furniture Confederation, (BFC) was formed in 2007 to champion the UK furniture industry to UK and EU governments. A vital and rapidly developing part of the industry is the Designer/Makers sector. Made up of very small businesses scattered all over the UK, they produce high quality pieces of furniture principally for commissions from private clients. www.britishfurnitureconfederation.org.uk
