There will be the best furniture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles and interior product design from over 50 Hidden Art designer maker members as well as food stalls, entertainment, exhibitions, demonstrations and more.

I have been really busy preparing for the event, making some smaller products which I hope will be popular with visitors to the show. I will also be showcasing a new collection of handmade furniture designed and made to be affordable to all.

As well as one or two larger pieces of work and the new collection, smaller products will be available to purchase  from the stand including mirrors, chopping boards, tea light holders, pencil and pen holders, candlesticks, salad spoons and more.

Craftpoint was a real success at the weekend, it was a lot of hard work putting it together, but well worth it. We had over two hundred people attending the 3 day event  even though the weather was  poor, particularly on Sunday which in actual fact was our busiest day with more than 100 visitors. Everybody involved sold something so that was a very positive outcome too.

We had visitors  from Germany, Holland and Spain as well as from all over the UK, however most were from Cornwall which was really good to know that we had local support. We got a mention on BBC Radio Cornwall from the one and only Freddy Zapp and a feature in the Cornishman which helped in getting people to us. The studio and workshop is  a little off of the beaten track and we were still hard to find even with all the posters and signage which was put up around the town!

The designer makers and artists taking part included Olivia Cassells, Carole Allen, Julie Murdoch George, David Briggs, Maxine Symons, Sue Kelly, Lynda Jewell, David Mckinstry, Naomi Singer, Charlotte Tangye, Cat Rowe, Sarah Nelson, Chloe Williams, Marie Louise Denny, Lincoln Kirby Bell,  Leslie Plumridge, Alison Hughes, Robert Jones, Sarah Jane Stone, Nicky Mills, Stephen Fuller, Carl Goodman and of course me Nicholas Langan.

A big thank you to all who took part without your support this would not have been possible.

Anyway, because of the overwhelming support by both customers and craftspeople we are planning the next event already, Carole Lomas of New Metaphor will be finding a new venue in the near future, we will keep you posted.

Well we have put many Craftpoint posters up already with more to follow tomorrow. We also have a nice big vinyl banner and some vinyl posters so watch out for them in and around the town over the weekend.

We also have plenty of fliers and some green balloons which we will put along King George V memorial walk and from the iron bridge leading to North Quay so Hopefully nobody will miss us.

The promotional material is looking fabulous and the studio and gallery is being transformed for the weekend. We have over 15 designer makers and artists taking part, all of the work is of a very high quality.

The Craftpoint Pop Up Shop will be open from 10am – 6pm daily from Friday 30th July to Sunday 1st August.There really is something for everyone, so come along and say hello, you will be most welcome. Refreshments will be available from the Harbour View Cafe which is just around the corner.

Craftpoint – Contemporary lifestyle from designer makers will be held over three days and is a brand new and intriguing way to shop in Cornwall.

What is so captivating about Craftpoint is that it is a pop up shop. The point behind Craftpoint is to showcase the best work of local contemporary craftspeople and designer makers in a series of venues, on different dates across the county throughout the year.

At Craftpoint there will be much to chose from including textiles, prints, jewellery, ceramics, gifts, wood, glass, art and furniture. Taking part will be JMG ceramics, Carole Allen Jewellery, Olivia Cassells, Maxine Symons, Cat Rowe and of course Nicholas Langan! Plus many more.

The Journeyman Furniture Studio and Gallery just happens to be the perfect venue  for the first event to take place as it coincides with Heyl Festival so there should be a lot of fun to be had in the town as well as at the Craftpoint shopping adventure!

After I finish writing this update, I will be working on an oak table and a maple Hi-Fi unit. Then continuing with some larger interior work, brilliant.

I just stumbled upon a technique which teaches how to make roses from maple leaves which is pretty inventive. I think I will give it a try when the leaves start to fall, which thankfully is still a few months away yet!

For nearly thirty years the Cornwall Crafts Association has supported the craftmakers resident in Cornwall to encourage the highest standards of design and making. It also aims to reach a wider audience to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of contemporary design-led craftwork.

The Association is a member-driven self-supporting charity and has, since its inception in 1973, gained a reputation nationally for the quality of craftwork of its past and present members. The galleries it manages are well established and attract a wide-ranging audience from around the country. Exhibiting with the Association not only provides an outlet for selling work, but also allows the craftworker direct contact with customers who often commission work privately.

The President of the Association, HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Cornwall, says: “Visitors to the Association’s galleries cannot fail to be impressed by member’s skill and flair by which, through work exhibited, our lives are enriched.”

It really is so much more satisfying (for me anyway) to actually see the fruits of my labour, all of this administrative work is just giving me tired eyes and a headache at the end of the day, I would rather have a splinter!

On a more positive note the fruits of this administrative labour is bringing in plenty of work so it’s not all bad, it is going to be a very busy second half of the year for sure.

On an even more positive note than that, I am off to the Eden Sessions tonight to see a couple of bands called Doves and Mumford and Sons. Let the good times roll…

Spalting of timber occurs usually when the log is left on the ground and various species of fungus live on and feed off of the log creating pigment change within the timber. The black and dark brown lines are ‘zone’ lines which the mycelium put up as barriers to stop other fungus invading their patch!

I have whole log of this spalted ash in the studio and have made a few commissions out of it so far including a lamp table, dining table, coffee table and of course the mirrors.
